Lead actress Adèle Haenel performed her own swimming scenes without a body double.
To secure informed consent from her three lead actresses and their parents for the film's intimate scenes, Sciamma discussed the full scenario individually with each girl in casting, including a scene in which one character deflowers another, while submitting a toned-down version of the script to satisfy regulatory requirements.
