How it was made
- Varda financed the film on a budget of about $14,000, roughly a quarter of what The 400 Blows and Breathless would cost a few years later.
- Cast and crew were not paid during filming; instead, they received partial ownership of the film through a co-operative structure, entitling them to a share of any future income from its sale or screenings.
- Varda rented a camera to shoot the film after visiting La Pointe Courte to take photographs for a friend who could no longer travel there herself.
- Artist Valentine Schlegel, a friend of Varda's, served as the film's artistic advisor.
