How it was made

Bong Joon-ho visited a Colorado slaughterhouse to research the film's slaughterhouse sequence, an experience that turned both him and producer Dooho Choi into temporary vegans.
Cinematographer Darius Khondji joined the production in February 2016, and principal photography began in Seoul before moving to Vancouver in July of that year.
Bong brought in Welsh author Jon Ronson to help develop the film's English-speaking characters from a rough draft of the script.
