How it was made
- Cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema retooled an IMAX camera to be handheld for interior scenes, and shot some sequences with an IMAX camera mounted in the nose cone of a Learjet.
- Production designer Nathan Crowley planted 500 acres of corn in Alberta specifically to be destroyed in an apocalyptic dust storm scene; the storm itself was created on location using large fans blowing cellulose-based synthetic dust.
- To protect the screenplay's secrecy, the production was filmed under the working title Flora's Letter, after one of Nolan's children.
- Nolan cut his brother Jonathan's original plot device of using gravitational waves to detect the wormhole, then regretted the decision after LIGO detected real gravitational waves about a year after the film's release.
