How it was made
- Nolan shot more than an hour of the film in IMAX format, up from 28 minutes in The Dark Knight, and bypassed a digital intermediate to preserve image resolution.
- Because IMAX cameras were too noisy for dialogue, the crew switched to 35mm and 70mm cameras whenever actors were speaking, since IMAX-recorded dialogue would have needed to be dubbed.
- Production filmed in Pittsburgh under the cover title Magnus Rex to limit visibility, using more than 11,000 extras for the football stadium sequence shot at Heinz Field.
- Nolan drew Bane's habit of finger-knitting paracord from Madame Defarge in Charles Dickens's A Tale of Two Cities, and had Commissioner Gordon's eulogy for Bruce Wayne lifted directly from the novel's text.
