How it was made

Hitchcock scrapped his planned Transatlantic Pictures production The Bramble Bush after its script and budget proved unworkable, dissolving his partnership with Sidney Bernstein and moving to Dial M for Murder at Warner Bros. instead.
According to biographer Donald Spoto, Hitchcock stayed calm through a production he was not enthusiastic about only because he was already preparing his next film, Rear Window.
Actors Anthony Dawson and John Williams reprised their original Broadway roles as Swann/Captain Lesgate and Inspector Hubbard for the film.
The character later known as Mark was named Max Halliday in the original stage play before the change for the film.
Hitchcock's cameo appears thirteen minutes into the film as a black-and-white photograph on the wall, showing him seated at a class reunion banquet.
