How it was made

Cinematographer Roger Deakins was hired in May 2014, around the same time as cast members Jon Bernthal and Josh Brolin.
Jóhann Jóhannsson was brought on in August 2014 to compose the score, his second collaboration with Villeneuve after Prisoners (2013).
Principal photography began on June 30, 2014, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with additional scenes shot in Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl, just east of Mexico City.
