How it was made

Ryan Gosling helped rewrite the dialogue for the "baseline test" scene after Villeneuve felt the original draft was not aggressive enough, drawing on an acting technique called "dropping in".
Jared Leto wore custom opaque contact lenses to work completely blind through his scenes as Niander Wallace, walking the set with an assistant between takes.
Production scouted London first but found no soundstage free, so cinematographer Roger Deakins and Villeneuve relocated the shoot to Korda Studios and the Origo Studios backlot near Budapest, qualifying for a 25% Hungarian tax rebate on local costs.
A scene set in the Blade Runner universe filmed for Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One was cut after Alcon's producers refused Spielberg copyright approval, even though Ready Player One was released after Blade Runner 2049.
