Boro the Caterpillar (2018)
Boro the Caterpillar is a 2018 Japanese animated short film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki made for the Ghibli Museum. The story is about a recently hatched caterpillar named Boro as he takes his first steps into the world. It premiered at the museum on March 21, 2018.

How it was made
- Boro the Caterpillar was Miyazaki's first work to feature a computer-generated main character, a shift producer Toshio Suzuki encouraged in hopes the technical challenge would reignite Miyazaki's interest in filmmaking after his 2013 retirement.
- Miyazaki chose to work with a team of Japanese CGI animators rather than collaborate with Pixar under John Lasseter, reasoning that a Japanese-speaking team would communicate more easily with him.
- The film's origins dated back to sketches Miyazaki made in 1995; producer Suzuki had earlier steered him toward making Princess Mononoke instead, judging a feature with no human characters too difficult to sustain.
- Comedian and television host Tamori voiced all the characters and performed all the sound effects for the roughly ten-minute short.
