How it was made
- Title designer Saul Bass, in his final work before his death, spent heavily on experimentation to get the flight path of the exploding car and body exactly right; the title sequence alone cost $11,316, not including the Basses' fees.
- The production filmed at night inside the actual Riviera casino in Las Vegas, using the nearby defunct Landmark Hotel as an entrance, rather than building a set.
- The opening car-explosion shot was filmed three times, and the third take was the one used in the finished film.
- Scorsese shot the film in the Super 35 format specifically so it could be reformatted for television broadcast, though cinematographer Robert Richardson was unhappy with the print quality and avoided the format again until Kill Bill: Volume 1.
- The film initially received an NC-17 rating from the MPAA for its violence, and had to be re-edited before it secured an R rating.
