How it was made
- Anderson and Michael Bauman, sharing the cinematography credit, shot the film on 35mm using older lenses specifically to recreate a 1970s visual texture.
- The restaurant Tail o' the Cock, demolished in 1987, was rebuilt from scratch at the Van Nuys Golf Course for the film.
- Alana Haim spent a week learning to drive large trucks and personally performed the stunt of backing one down a long hill.
- The production filmed under the working title Soggy Bottom, the name later given to the fictional waterbed business at the centre of the story.
