- The film adapts Roger Guenveur Smith's solo stage performance directly for the screen, staged on a bare, dark set with only a couple of screens behind him.
- The production used multiple cameras and separate microphones to capture Smith's performance from different angles and perspectives.
- It was produced for PBS by BLACK STARZ! and Luna Ray Films in collaboration with the African Heritage Network, and broadcast from San Francisco by PBS station KQED.
