How it was made

The aerial firefighting sequences combined real flying with rear projection and scale models; two Douglas A-26 Invader bombers were flown by film pilot Steve Hinton and their owner, Dennis Lynch, for the low-level fire runs.
Real footage of Yellowstone National Park's 1988 wildfires was incorporated into the film's fire sequences.
Around 500 residents of Libby, Montana were recruited as extras to play wildland firefighters during the Kootenai National Forest shoot.
