How it was made
- The film was shot with Sony CineAlta F950 cameras on HD-CAM SR digital format rather than on film.
- Several scenes were filmed with stand-ins before any actors had signed on, with the eventual cast digitally composited in during post-production.
- Director Robert Rodriguez treated the adaptation as “less of an adaptation than a translation,” using only the credit “Based on the graphic novels by Frank Miller” rather than a screenwriting credit.
- The film's three interwoven stories were scored by three different composers: Graeme Revell on “The Hard Goodbye,” John Debney on “The Big Fat Kill,” and Rodriguez himself on “That Yellow Bastard.”
