How it was made

The prisoner-exchange scene was filmed on the actual Glienicke Bridge, where the historical 1962 exchange took place; the bridge was closed to traffic for the final weekend of November 2014 to shoot it.
Wrocław, Poland, doubled for East Berlin in the sequences depicting the construction of the Berlin Wall.
Scenes of Donovan's arrival at Tempelhof were shot at the actual former Tempelhof Airport where the historical event occurred.
The film was shot on 35mm using Kodak Vision3 250D and 500T colour negative stock.
John Williams was originally set to score the film but withdrew due to a health issue, making it the first Spielberg film without Williams's music since 1985's The Color Purple; Thomas Newman took over instead.
The Coen brothers revised Matt Charman's original script, with Charman crediting them for punching up the negotiation scenes before handing the screenplay back to him for a final pass.
